I do thank you for writing, but there are a few matters that I should call to your attention. First of all, my name is not Douglas. It is a fine and honorable name – I dare say I would have been a better person if I had been born a Douglas – but it is simply not mine. Secondly, it would have been better if you had written in English. It has been half a century since my university German and I was not the most apt of students even then.

Thirdly, while I could do with losing 5 kilos, the thought of losing 25 kilos is scary. It occurs to me that you may think that “Douglas” is a feminine name and that I am really rather heavy for a woman. If so, it seems that we have an international identity crisis going on here.
